Why QFX (Quicken Web Connect) for HSBC statements?

QFX is OFX plus an Intuit identifier. Quicken refuses plain OFX unless you pay Intuit's monthly data subscription; converting a PDF straight to QFX bypasses that paywall.

HSBC's own download options (PDF, CSV (90 days), QIF, OFX) cover the basics but don't always include QFX (Quicken Web Connect). HSBC UK caps its built-in CSV at the last 90 days, so anyone reconciling a full tax year ends up downloading monthly PDFs. The PDFs are text-based and the converter preserves transaction date, type code (DD, BP, FPO, etc.), description, paid out, paid in, and running balance.
