How to import into QuickBooks

1. Download OFX or QFX from your bank
Almost every US bank offers OFX/QFX under 'Download transactions' or 'Export to Quicken'.
2. Drop into the converter
The output is a .qbo file with the correct Intuit Web Connect header.
3. Open in QuickBooks Desktop
File → Utilities → Import → Web Connect Files. Or double-click the .qbo and QuickBooks opens automatically.
4. Match the account
On first import QuickBooks asks which account it belongs to. Pick or create one — done.

FAQ

Why does QuickBooks need a QBO file instead of OFX?+

Intuit ships three near-identical variants of the OFX spec — OFX (open), QFX (Quicken), and QBO (QuickBooks). QuickBooks Desktop's Web Connect import only accepts QBO. The bodies are identical SGML; only the file header changes.

What's actually different inside the file?+

The QBO header adds INTU.BID (your bank's Intuit Bank ID) and INTU.USERID. Otherwise every <STMTTRN> block is identical to OFX/QFX. This tool rewrites the header and leaves the transaction body untouched.

Can I make up an INTU.BID?+

For QuickBooks Desktop, yes — any 4–5 digit number works for one-time imports. For QuickBooks Online direct bank feeds you need a real one issued by Intuit (banks pay for these). Most users just doing a one-off import are fine with the default.

Does this work for QuickBooks Online?+

QuickBooks Online accepts QBO via File → Import → Bank Transactions. It also accepts CSV directly — for QBO it's usually easier to convert OFX → CSV and use the CSV importer.

Is my OFX uploaded?+

No. The repack runs entirely in your browser — your account number and transactions never touch a server.
