Convert CSV to QBO for QuickBooks (Web Connect Format)
Convert any bank statement PDF to CSV in seconds — preview free, then unlock the full download.
QuickBooks loves CSV for some imports and hates it for others. If you want to use the Banking → Upload flow with full transaction matching, QuickBooks wants a .qbo (Web Connect) file — not CSV.
This guide shows how to take any bank's CSV export and turn it into a valid .qbo file that QuickBooks Online or Desktop will accept on the first try.
Why use .qbo instead of CSV import in QuickBooks?
QuickBooks supports two import paths:
- 3-column CSV import — Date, Description, Amount. Works, but rejects multi-currency, has no transaction IDs, and breaks on European date formats.
- .qbo Web Connect import — Full OFX schema. Includes FITID (unique transaction ID), check numbers, type codes, and prevents duplicates automatically.
The .qbo path is what banks themselves use. It's faster, more accurate, and matches your existing register entries.
The conversion flow
1. Export your bank statement as CSV (or convert a PDF first) 2. Open convertbank.online/tools/csv-to-qbo 3. Drop the CSV in — our tool auto-detects Date, Description, and Amount columns 4. Map any non-standard columns (Memo, Check #, Balance) 5. Download the .qbo file 6. In QuickBooks: Banking → Upload from file

Column requirements
QuickBooks-ready CSVs need at minimum:
- Date — YYYY-MM-DD, MM/DD/YYYY, or DD/MM/YYYY (our tool detects automatically)
- Description / Payee — merchant or memo
- Amount — single column with positive/negative signs, OR separate Debit/Credit columns
Optional but helpful: - FITID / Reference number (prevents duplicates) - Balance (lets QuickBooks verify the running total) - Check Number
Common issues
- "File contains no transactions" — your date column is being parsed as text. Re-export from your bank with ISO dates.
- "Duplicate transactions" — your bank doesn't include FITIDs. Our tool generates stable ones from date+amount+description.
- Wrong sign on amounts — some banks export debits as positive. Flip the sign in step 4.
